International Day for Biological Diversity 2026

May 22, 2026

On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2026, the OneAquaHealth Project highlighted its ongoing efforts to strengthen the connection between biodiversity, ecosystem integrity and human health.

Over the past three years, the project has worked to advance innovative approaches for monitoring aquatic biodiversity and ecosystem health, while supporting the development of practical tools and solutions for local stakeholders and decision-makers. The initiative also continues to promote the One Health perspective, recognising the strong interconnection between environmental, animal and human health.

Recent achievements from the project include the publication of several Key Exploitable Results designed to support uptake by stakeholders, public authorities and market actors. In parallel, the project has launched registration for the upcoming OneAquaHealth Hackathon, which aims to encourage the development of AI-based early-warning systems, resilience tools and decision-support platforms for healthier urban water ecosystems.

The consortium also continues to expand its stakeholder engagement and knowledge-sharing activities through its growing community network, reinforcing collaboration between science, policy and real-world implementation.

Through these initiatives, OneAquaHealth continues to contribute to a more sustainable and healthier future by placing biodiversity and ecosystem resilience at the centre of urban health strategies.
