The ALAMEDA project, funded by the European Union, aims to improve care for patients with brain disorders — specifically Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Stroke — through the development of Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. Its core objective is to provide clinicians with actionable insights that support early diagnosis, continuous monitoring, and personalized treatment strategies.

By integrating data from wearable sensors, mobile apps, and patient-reported outcomes, ALAMEDA enables more accurate predictions of disease progression and relapse risk. The project pilots are conducted in Greece, Italy, and Romania, each focusing on a specific condition.

The project architecture is structured around three key layers:

  1. Data Collection & Management – integrating medical records, sensor data, and home-based monitoring;
  2. Data Processing & Analytics – implementing ML and AI models for real-time and retrospective analysis;
  3. Visualization & Applications – delivering dashboards and user-friendly tools for clinicians, patients, and caregivers.

A unique aspect of ALAMEDA is its patient-centric approach, involving patients and local communities in the design and evaluation of the research, following the MULTI-ACT framework for participatory governance.

The resulting ALAMEDA AI Toolkit and the Digital Health Innovation Hub will be made available as open-source resources, encouraging further development and adoption in digital healthcare across Europe.
